遥控飞机、变形玩具、娃娃……市面上专门针对孩子的玩具琳琅满目，却没有多少专门为老年人设计的玩具。走遍各大商场玩具柜台里几乎都是操作简单适合幼儿的玩具，专门为老年人设计的智力型玩具难见踪影。即使在很多销售人员眼里，玩具就是小孩子的专利，针对老年人的玩具听起来并不实际。
但事实上，不少老年人对玩具的需求是存在的，而且需求量并不小。一位消费者表示，自己的老父亲退休在家，平时比较寂寞，作为子女的他很想买一个玩具让他动动手、动动脑，为枯燥的生活增添一点乐趣。但走遍各个商场，总是难以找到合适的。老年人需要专门为他们设计的玩具，来增添生活的乐趣，但是现在市面上根本找不到。
经验
由于生活环境的变化，许多老人缺乏交流、沟通和倾诉，如果长时间精神得不到寄托，很容易患上抑郁、焦虑症，甚至老年痴呆症。美国一医学专家几年前就有研究发现，50岁以前开始玩**益智玩具的人发生老年痴呆症的发病率只有普通人群的32%。另有一些医学专家发现，一些轻度老年痴呆症患者玩**益智玩具，可以减缓甚至阻止病情的发展，少数病人还有一定程度的智力恢复。
但国内普遍却认为玩具属于儿童的专利，老年人和玩具之间是没有缘分的，因此老年玩具几乎是个空白。就在我们有意无意忽视老年人玩具市场时，其他国家的经验或许值得我们借鉴。不少国家目前老年人玩具专卖店在已经非常普遍，部分市场的老年人玩具已经占据了玩具市场40%以上。远的不说，以日本为例，他们的老年人就很注重大脑益智训练，市场上也盛行能让老化的大脑重新焕发活力的书籍、玩具等益智产品。一位99岁的老人张东对玩具情有独钟，喜欢玩魔方，房间里放有汽车、飞机、玩具小鸡、魔方等玩具，童心未泯，积极的心态使其健康长寿。
出路
事实上，对于老人玩具市场的空白，国内厂家并非熟视无睹。上海玩具行业协会秘书长徐全宁在接受中外玩具礼品网记者采访时表示，厂家苦思冥想如何进入这个市场，却苦于缺乏开发人才。
“目前国内玩具生产厂家的工艺过关了，创意却很欠缺。”徐全宁说，“随着老年人生活水平的改善，老人消费能力大大提高，购买欲也强，老年人玩具的市场需求量很大。”
老年人玩具是一个新领域，它偏重于益智和动手，其实很多的玩具也适合老年人玩，但现在最主要的问题是国内没有专门针对老年人的玩具店。
目前中国国内地玩具设计师仅有2万多人，而玩具从业人员却有200多万之多，设计师所占比率仅为1%，而发达国家一般为20%左右。此外全国设有玩具设计专业的院校只有18所，每年大概有400名左右的毕业生，根本无法满足巨大的玩具人才缺口。设计人才短缺成为玩具业发展的短板。
业内人士呼吁，希望相关部门能更加重视玩具产业发展，多开设相关专业，输送专业人才，毕竟，这是一个“令人兴奋、市场广阔”的行业，是一个从小孩到老人都离不开的行业。
专家建议
把“玩具”扩大到“玩聚”
社会学家郝麦收表示，其实人生各个阶段都是需要玩具的，因为玩具能给人以愉悦的心情，不仅使心理上获得满足，也会让人变得更加阳光开朗，这对老年人尤为重要。
面对适合老年人玩的玩具较少的市场现状，社会学家郝麦收建议老年人及其家人不妨考虑将玩具的范围扩大化，可用其他的替代物。比如说宠物，宠物也可以替代玩具，因为其是有生命的，可以和人有情感和行为上的交流。此外还有书画、书籍等人文气息浓厚的作品，也很适合老年人陶冶情操，作为重阳节的礼物也非常适合。
此外还可以将玩具升华，由“玩”到“聚”。建议老年人多参加一些有目标、有对象的群体活动，比如，重阳节子女们不妨带老人去爬爬山，进行一些户外的活动。把玩具的概念扩大，寻找存在于社会中的大玩具，以满足老人愉悦身心的需要，给老人带来更多的快乐。
